Socialized Talk Radio

Truth and Hope Report Show Notes

Liberals plan to create more liberal talk radio because they can't compete on their own. The end result of their efforts will only be the growth of Internet talk and the death of talk as a format on the FM dial. (hat tip: Wizbang Blog)

While, the Administration has not been able to deal with millions of illegals crossing the border, there were folks in the government who were pushing deportation against the wife of an MIA US Soldier.

Finally, Planned Parenthood is facing a lawsuit after a woman died at their clinics, marking the third death at a Planned Parenthood in the last four years. (Hat Tip: World Magazine Blog.)

Open Letter to Senator Lindsey Graham

Senator, I’m not one of your constituents, but I’ve followed your career for years. Let’s be honest, I’ve disagreed with you quite a few times, but I’ve never disrespected you. Certain folks have shown themselves people of good will and I can respect that no matter how misguided they might be, they truly mean the best.

While I disagreed with your vote against impeaching Clinton for perjury in a civil suit, I understood why you did it. You eloquently and ably represented the case of the House Impeachment managers on the articles that were sent to the House. Then, I read Senator Tom Coburn’s (R-Ok.) book, “Breach of Trust” where he described how you faced down Newt Gingrich and the Republican leadership over spending in 1997, as they prepared to bust the budget caps.

Yes, there have been some poor decisions and some votes I strongly disagreed with. Your support for McCain-Feingold and your membership in the gang of fourteen come immediately to mind, but there have been others, but I have never questioned your good intentions. Until now.

You’ve been going across the country identifying opponents of the illegal immigration bill as “bigots” and comparing concerns about illegal immigration to negative attitudes towards Blacks and Jews. Many questions run through my mind.

First, do you actually believe what you’re saying? Do you think that your fellow South Carolinian, Jim DeMint, is a bigot? Do you think your old comrade-in-arms in the House, Senator Coburn, is? While you can undoubtedly find anti-Hispanic bigots, they don’t represent the mainstream of this movement.

When I talk to people about the border, I find many have no problem with immigration provided that it’s done in accordance with the law. The great thing about America is that it is a land that takes people from all over the world and through the process of assimilation turns them into Americans.

There are many concerns with this bill. Senator Graham, why are those who oppose tearing down the rule of law through amnesty bigots? Our prosperity and safety rests on the respect for law in our country. When we tear that down through amnesty, we begin to chip away at the very foundation of what makes this nation worth emigrating to.

Senator Graham, why is it that people are bigots if they oppose the creation of a permanent underclass (i.e. guest workers) that will feed the corrupt Mexican government? Having once ended a system in this country that thrived on an underclass that did “the jobs Americans won’t do,” why are we now set to re-create it? Is this a bigoted question to ask? Were those folks against the African Slave trade really just anti-African bigots who didn’t want Blacks in their country?

Senator Graham, is it bigoted to expect that those who’ve waited in line and faced the insufferable US immigration bureaucracy be given first opportunity to come to our country rather than those who’ve broken the rules to come into our border? Is it racist to oppose punishing those who try to follow the law while rewarding those who break it? Am I a bigot because I think there is no way you can dump 12-20 million (or 30-40 million, who knows?) new applications for Visas from illegals and get anything other than a massive backlog that leads to permanent amnesty without punishment or accountability?

These are legitimate concerns, but it seems to me you’re so dedicated to passing this amnesty that you’ll declare all legitimate concerns to be nothing more than bigotry. In the process, you’re destroying the Republican Party. Do you want to be in the same party as “the bigots”? Do those who oppose amnesty want to be in a party with those who will demagogue and demonize us in order to make their point? Senator, to me it appears you’re acting like a child, throwing a tantrum with a hammer, not even understanding the damage you’re doing.

If you can actually listen to us long enough to stop demonizing us, maybe at last you’ll understand why we oppose this bill, and address our concerns in a serious and substantive way, rather than with name calling and personal attacks.

Sincerely Yours,
Adam Graham

The Empire Is Struck Back

Truth and Hope Report Podcast Show Notes

House Republicans strike back against amnesty with a bill that makes common sense. The centerpiece: it's called enforcing the law. A novel concept, I know.

Planned Parenthood will no longer be teaching kids in the Show Me State sex ed, and they fear going out of business to insure the health of women getting 2nd and 3rd trimester abortions.

Also, an article by John Lott reveals the cost of abortion.

Finally, we do an ACLU hypocrisy medley that shows the ACLU's inconsistency on religious issues that depend largely on whether Christians or Muslims are at issue.

Our stories:

Detroit News:

Muslims Won't Fund Foot Baths

Minneapolis Star-Tribune:

Role as Religious Mentor May Lead to Staffer Firing

Observer:

Teacher Fights on in Flap Over Islamic Teacher (

Terrorism on the Border

Truth and Hope Report Podcast Show Notes

Illegal immigrants are setting fires to force our border patrol away from observation points, while at the same time destroying our national forests. Somehow, I don't think liberal environmentalists will be all that excited. Also, the rabid nature of extreme pro-abortionists and Zero Tolerance goes mad.

The Root of the Problem: Fatherlessness and Families

Do we want to do something about the problems of the Black Community? Than we must do something about the problem of fatherlessness.

This Reuters story on fatherlessness is the lead item on tonight's podcast. The costs of fatherlessness and single parenthood to our society and its children are astounding. Liberals tend to seek out government social programs that address symptoms, rather than dealing with the root of the problem: family decline. Sadly, many would rather pretend all lifestyle and family choices are equal in the face of evidence that says they are not.

Also, Republicans apparently reaached a deal with Democrats to allow the disclosure of pork-laden secret earmarks in federal spending bills. I've been a critic of the Republican Minority when they've deserved it, but standing firm on this is key.

It's also a small victory (and even that's been called into doubt by some stories since I finished recording an hour ago) but if we can get to the point where our politicians are at least openly spending their pork rather than doing it secretyly, we'll have made progress. (Hat Tip: Instapundit.)

Meanwhile, a study points out serious flaws in reports on abstinence programs. It seems that in order to get favored results, certain programs were cherry picked which included some common features that greatly increased the risk of failure.

To say teaching abstinence doesn't work is silly. Some programs don't work well or aren't thought out. That doesn't mean programs can't work, only that a few haven't. There are a multitude of different programs and to declare they all "don't work" is merely wishful thinking. But what can we expect from the American left.

The Business as Usual Congress

Truth and Hope Report Podcast Show Notes:

"Business as Usual," that's how 63% of Americans describe the Democrat Congress. (hat tip: Captain's Quarters). Might if have something to do with outrageous Democrat earmarks? They're all talk, no action policy doesn't play too well with the American people.

Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey says Congress doesn't have time to find all the earmarks. Hundreds of citizens are offering to help sift through the Earmarks via Porkbusters (be sure to add your name) (Hat Tip: Instapundit.)

House Minority Leader John Boehner is saying they'll go to war over earmarks, but I'm with Lorie Byrd. I'll believe it when I see it.

Meanwhile Moderate Muslims show up as the member of the radical group CAIR plummets. I just wish they would do more and be active in opposing the terrorist elements of their sect.

Finally, President Bush goes to Congress to demand the passage of the amnesty bill, saying the current situation is unacceptable. If it's unacceptable, why doesn't he enforce the law? Instead he's holding the security of our country hostage for a guest worker program to benefit corporate America.

Bringing People Together By Calling Them Whiners

That seems to be the novel approach of Utah Republican Christopher Cannon who attempted to do just that on Red State with an attack on border hawks. The simple truth of the matter, Congressman is we don't need you to do anything. It's up to the administration do its duty and enforce the law, Congress just needs to push.

We cover this and several other powerful stories on the Truth and Hope Report podcast:

Some conservatives in Virginia are leading the way for the rest of us with their challenge to Liberal Republican lawmakers. I don't know whether they'll succeed or not, but it's important that they try and set the example. Liberal Republicans will not go away by becoming Independents, but only by Conservative challenging them.

Meanwhile, 43rd State Bluen has a banner proclaiming not only their opposition to federal abstinence education but to sexual abstinence in general, despite the harm that premarital sex does to teenagers according to science. The argument that some abstinence programs haven't worked and therefore abstinence shouldn't be taught. Leads me to question whether they would respond similiarly to other areas of education such as Driver's ed.

Also, we discuss the link between abortion and premature birth as women who have abortions are twice as likely to give birth to pre-mature children who can have a wide variet of development problems, many of which can cost taxpayer money (Hello, Libertarians, are you listening.)

Meanwhile, guess how many adoption referrals Planned Parenthood included in its annual report? And guess who Planned Parenthood's biggest source of funding is?

All this is and more is featured on tonight's Truth and Hope Report.

Avoiding the Need for Traditional Family

A  study showing a link between increased Ritalin usage and divorce shows something we want to ignore: intact traditional families matter greatly and they make a big difference for kids and families.

We'll tie ourselves in all kinds of knots rather than admit this fact. All family units and structures are equal is a central PC element. It's simply not true.

You probably won't hear it from the mainstream press, but our troops are making great progress in Afghanistan.

Finally, more hope for additional ethical sources of stem cells. So with all these sources of ethical stem cells, what's the reason for pushing ESCR? We discuss it.

The Easy Way Out Isn't the Way Out

Their are mature adults who opposed the war in Iraq. Let's be honest. I didn't embrace it going in. In recent conversations, I've talked about our need to maintain national honor and a credible reputation. Yet, Iraq War skeptics, including journalists covering Iraq, General Anthony Zinni, and Sunni States that opposed Operation Iraqi Feedom have been honest: the result of U.S. withdrawal is likely expansion of the war and an eventual US return to a much bigger conflict in a few years. (Hat Tip: Instapundit)

Also, the Las Vegas Review Journal is picking up on the broken promises of Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat Congress on spending and ethics. (another hat tip: Instapundit)

We also talk about slavery and sexual trafficking in the United States.

Also, in order to balance, serious substantive stories, I talk about some of the stories that are passing for news elsewhere in my non-news Commentary section.

The Amnesty That Won't Work

Some folks are willing to back amnesty if it will actually solve some of the problems associated with illegal immigration. The Congressional Budget Office is coming out with devestating findings that show the act as close to useless as you can imagine.(Hat Tip: Captain's Quarters) Grassroots GOP activists in the States are raising money by opposing the amnesty and bloggers beg the Congressional leadership to kill the bill.

Also on the Troop and Hope Report, I talk about our new streamlined format. Rather than covering a dozen of topics, I'm going to focus on the most important.

Another issue I discuss is the William Jefferson Scandal and how you can't feel too sorry for the people of his district as they knew he was corrupt when they re-elected him.

Finally, we take a look at the damage done at the UN and a great column from Nat Hentoff.

Take Their Money

The following is a commentary from the Truth and Hope Report (http://www.truthandhope.2truth.com) Weekend update by Democratic Political Dave Screwtape

There has been some controversy over Democrats receiving large contributions from lobbyists and PACs for such industries as banking and big oil. Or I should say, there would have been had our allies in the press not ignored it.

However, there is a question that has been asked by some that I’ll endeavor to answer. Should we, as Democrats follow the same corrupt path of Tom DeLay and the K Street project, that opened our government up to shame and scandal?

You bet your life! Big money contributions are what makes Washington work.

There are three things in Washington: the majority, the opposition, and money. Money is bi-partisan . There’s little to be had for being an ideologue (unless you back the agenda of the Club for Growth) but much to be had for being a friend of special interests.

Money goes with the majority and if you lose your majority, you lose many contributors as well. After all, how much influence does the 9th ranking minority member of the Small Business Committee have?

With our current campaign finance system, in order to maintain your seats, you must have the support of multiple interests. So, whether you like it or not, money is needed, and it is money by the hundreds of thousands. Corporate lawyers, lobbyists, and their friends will pour their money into the party in power. They run the halls of Congress. They paid to play and there’s little anyone can do about it.

The “solutions” offered are hard, if not completely unworkable. Public financing of elections is a pipe dream. It’d be incredibly hard to administer. Who’s a serious candidate? Who gets money? How much? How about third party candidates? How much do they get? If we could find a way to have all candidates funded at the same level, then incumbents would have an even larger advantage, but in open seats, Democrats would benefit from our friends in the mainstream press giving us an edge in their coverage.

The favorite Republican idea of eliminating all caps on individual contributions and requiring instant disclosure introduces a dangerous degree of unpredictability into our political process. If six or seven people can get together and provide $250,000 in seed money to a Congressional Campaign, this would do a horrendous amount of harm to those who make their living harnessing influence and raising obscene amounts of cash for members of Congress. In this economy should we really be putting people out of work?

In addition, for success, America requires a stable of government. We’ve worked hard to create a system where only those who are personally wealthy or well-connected to dozens of special interest power brokers can be elected to high office. Imagine what kind of harm would be done to the World’s greatest Democracy if just anybody could get elected to office?

If you’re in Congress, take my advice: take the money and use it. Buy yourself another term or so and feel good about it. You’ve shown those corporate scumbags a thing or two. You’re not selling out, they’re coming to you to pay protection money. Be sure to provide protection and you’ll continue to scare away anyone with serious thoughts of challenging you.

You should take great pains to show yourself that it’s all “worth it.” Be sure to fight for some cause of peripheral importance such as voting for non-binding resolutions affirming Roe v. Wade, and creating non-discrimination policies that don’t forbid gays from working in your office (whether you actually ever hire a gay person is entirely up to you.) Attack Bushco and know that as long as Democrats control Congress, America will be safe from the evils of corrupt Republican Congressmen.

The Screwtape Report is written by Adam Graham. The Screwtape Report is written from a Democratic perspective by a conservative in order to reveal Democratic strategy and thinking.

Both Parties in Trouble

Democrats are unable to get even the most basic things done such as their 5-day workweek scheme or the whole thing about bi-partisan partnership instead of partisanship. Of course, the GOP isn't doing much better. Republican Senators (clueless) as always are being picketed at home by their constituents over their support of the amnesty bill. No wonder, support for both parties has been tanking in the recent Rasmussen poll. Former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney is even looking into a run for the White House.

These are just a few of the issues we talked about on tonight's Truth and Hope Report podcast.

Also, we briefly talk about John McCain's fading campaign. McCain never had a whole lot to offer other than his gracious plan to help exalt himself. It's gotten so bad, Dean Barnett's running a pool to see when he gets out.

Meanwhile, CNN is pumping up Jim Wallis' bid to become the liberal Christian's Falwell by agree to sponsor their debate, as Martha West points out, they wouldn't do this for Concerned Women for America. To be honest, I can't remember any Conservative organization (and political parties don't count)that's ever co-sponsored a debate with media outlets, but in addition to Sojourner with CNN, there's also Fox News and the Black Caucus and in 2000 Al Sharpton got to sponsor a debate in Harlem.

No doubt, most folks have heard of a lesbian suing E-harmony. E-harmony's basic answer is that they're service is designed to match straights based on compatibilities that create a good marriage, and they have no such expertise with gays. So I guess this woman's insisting that the same thing is required for two Lesbians to match up as a man and a woman.

I also discuss another dumb lawsuit coming out of Montana.

Then we have a public school teacher who co-opted her classroom for political purposes.

Then we turn to marriage and family life and a study that shows: Surprise, staying married helps your kids economically. (Hat Tip: Instapundit.)

Then we get into some miscellaneous news. We pander-er-panda a little bit with a talk about a failed Panda reintroduction move that will no doubt be repated, despite long odds of another result. Also, a lot of folks are joining the ultra-rich. Then we talk about Scrappleface's latest.

Finally, we turn from Saturday Night thoughts to Sunday morning with a conversation about a recent study (covered by World Magazine and Christianity Today) that show the need of parents and teens to committ to faithfulness to God and churches to preach it.

We talk about this and probably a little bit more on tonight's Truth and Hope Report.

All That's Left is the Name Calling

On tonight's podcast, we discuss the issues of the day, including immigration reform, the 2008 Presidential election, and more

First up is the disgraceful attacks by many Republicans have been engaging in name-calling to get their way, including Senator Lindsey Graham and Linda Chavez. For shame, it's a game of trying to cast your opponents as bigots to get your way and will have drastic consequences. By the way, if only anti-Hispanic bigots oppose illegal immigrations, what does that make Robert Vasquez the anti-Hispanic Hispanic?

Meanwhile, another reason, sexual abusers love Planned Parenthood. (Hat Tip: Michelle Malkin.)

We'll also discuss a couple interesting concept pieces: Do We Need Public Schools? and What do we do with those who are exonerated by DNA? Also you know you're doing a good job when liberals give you death wishes when you meet on the street. (Hat Tip: Club for Growth.)

The Majority Accountability Project tells us about a moment of honest by a Democratic Congressman.

Fred Thompson is running for President starting in July or is he? Michelle Malkin's post and Oval Office 2008's headline sum up the sillyness over this whole situation as Thompson camapign/committee continues to generate news headlines over non-news non-announcements.

What's wrong with Rudy Giuliani? Try a Libertarian and a pro-life conservative both debuting articles against him.

We talk about all these issues + our share of technical difficulties on the Truth and Hope Report. If this sounds like a show you'd like to listen to, click the link below or click to add us to your Itunes and I'll bring you informative news and views right on your Ipod!

Dissing America

The shameful treatment of Miss USA at the Miss Universe pageant was disrespectful to the United States. The Anti-US attitude given how much comes to Mexico from the US shows the problem with a nation that's producing illegal immigratnts with an entitlement mentality.

This is talked about on tonight's Truth and Hope Report along with the following topics:

-Conservatives Selling Out
-The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly in Congress
-Double Standard on Violence
-Bush Takes Action on Dictators
-Who's Afraid of the Creation Museum?
